Emerging Signal
Open instruction-set architectures are enabling customizable processors and workload-specific accelerators across AI, data-center and edge systems.

RISC-V is an open instruction-set architecture published as ratified specifications. Implementers can use the base integer instruction set, optional standard extensions such as vector operations, and custom instructions aimed at a particular workload. That model is being applied to processors and accelerators for AI, data-center and edge systems.
An open, extensible instruction set lets a team shape a processor around a workload without licensing a proprietary architecture. Ratified profiles and extensions give software a more stable target while still leaving room for workload-specific accelerators.
Watch which ratified profiles and extensions software stacks converge on, how custom extensions relate to those profiles, and where open-ISA processors are used alongside established architectures in AI and high-performance systems.
